This is part of a series of wearable sculptures I started making in 2024. The way it drapes across the shoulders and down the front can be seen as to either protect the body, as armour, or hang as burdens around the neck. On one of the shapes there is a needle felted snake, a symbol of transformation, renewal, and healing, but he is blind and cannot see where he is going. The hand protects, as well as holding a key on a string. On the other, smaller shape, there is the skin the snake has shed in the transformation. The piece calls up contrasting ideas of control and release and the tension between safety and risk.
